This is one of those stories that won’t come easy. It’s genuinely one where I’ll have to “sit down and open a vein.” It’s very personal, and maybe I should not speak publicly about it, but I need to, and since I’ve gotten older, I have no desire to hide any part of my life. Because, through it all, I know I did the best I could.

Thoughts about our grandson.

For reasons I don’t want to go into here, my husband and I found out early in 2013 that we would have to take over the raising of our oldest grandson. There was no choice except to let him go into foster care. And with the shortage of foster homes in our area, we were assured he would probably end up in a group home.

Throw out your own clutter.

Sometimes it is a bit of a shock for those of us at “a certain age” to realize our children, and especially our grandchildren, may not treasure the same things we do.

I found mine and you can, too.

I’ve been married for 24 years come November. I finally found the love of my life, but it took me a while. I was 45, and I’d been married three times before I met my husband, Ray. Life had been a series of storms and trials and I was tired and not really interested in guys anymore. Too much trouble. I had enough of my own problems and a man just seemed and unnecessary complication. I was on a break from relationships. I’d been badly hurt in my last divorce, and I wanted no more.

I wonder if anyone can tell me what happens when I’m reading someone’s story, and I get called away from my computer or have to go to the bathroom or whatever? Many times I’ve gone away from the computer for hours (to cook dinner, most likely), or to answer the door, etc., and when I come back, there’s the same story I was reading, and I’ve left it up on my screen all that time.

Trying to better oneself by going to college should be commended and not open the door for more punishment.

I have to write again about my younger daughter, who, as all my regular readers know, is a recovering addict. I’ve written a lot about her, but she doesn’t mind, as she is as committed as I am to advocating for former inmates who went to prison because of our arcane drug laws.

Thanks to those who would not take the vaccine and state officials who were too quick to remove mask mandates.

Here we are again in danger because so many people — yes, mostly the same ones who still support Trump — will not get their vaccines. I’ve written several stories about how dangerous these people are in other ways. Now they are threatening our very lives with their stubborn ignorance and stupid excuses for not getting the vaccine.

They’re trying to preserve Texans’ voting rights.

Texas democrat state representatives have left the state to keep their counterparts — Texas Republicans in the statehouse — from achieving a quorum to vote on more restrictive voting laws. The Democrats say the measures the republicans are trying to pass will weaken the voting rights of Texans.

Will never be an early bird.

I wish I were an early bird, but I’m a night owl. It’s ridiculous how hard I’ve tried to change, and believe me, I’ve tried. But a night owl I remain, and I guess I will be for the rest of my life.

It’s much more than luck, and I lied; it is not easy.

Playing at Medium doesn’t work. I know. I wrote my first story for this platform on September 1, 2019. I’ve just recently started making a little money here. I made a modest $174.13 for June, but to me, it feels like a million dollars since my goal was to make my first $100.
