I used to be familiar with most of the writers who showed up on my feed and many of them were friends, too.
To find them now I have to search their names. Their work never comes up on my stories listings. I’ve lost some of them and I don’t know if they quit or got thrown off the platform or what.
To add insult to injury, I’m not interested in many of the stories that are chosen and presented to me on my feed. Is anyone else experiencing this?
There’s big trouble back at the space station. Medium has become so unfamiliar to me I don’t feel I belong here anymore. Surely the intent is not to make readers and writers feel out of place. Medium doesn’t feel like home anymore, at least to essay writers like me, and I’m not sure they care. In fact, from recent happenings, I’d say they don’t.
I don’t see many of the personal stories of the type I write, but I see plenty of boring (to me) stories about technical stuff and AI stuff, and even stuff AI wrote.
Medium: The first platform where writers have to compete with stories written by AI. It feels unfair. But if that’s who they want to be.
But I guess it’s the brave new world. Of Medium.
Making the old writers feel uncomfortable seems a goal. Maybe they hope people like me will shut up and quit. I might. Many good writers have quit or almost quit. And Medium is certainly not the better for it.
