Trump Erred in Questioning State and Local Election Procedures
Hopefully it helps him lose.
Trump made a serious error in the last few days by hinting there would be cheating in the vote-counting and trying to contest some states’ voting methodology.
Careful and responsible county clerks, state workers, and volunteers work to get the votes turned in and counted during elections. By acting as if the election would be “rigged,” he insulted every dedicated and responsible election official in the country.
And signs are that they don’t appreciate it. He managed to alienate would-be friends in his own party.
Republicans, as well as Democrats have been uniformly outraged that he would accuse the people who work their hearts out on our elections of doing anything illegal or shady. That’s his kind of stuff, not theirs.
In my state, the person in charge of getting the county’s votes counted and reported to the Secretary of State, is the county clerk, who is a local elected official. In every state, there is an elected official responsible for conducting elections and counting the votes. Many of them are Republicans.
If not for these people and their staffs knowing what they are doing, we’d never have elections — not real ones anyway. These workers are diligent.
Donald Trump yelling about cheating against him in the election has offended every American who will work hard for the next few days getting our votes counted. A lot of the Republicans among them already have something to say about his accusations. According to local and state reporting, they are publicly letting Trump know how they feel about him questioning their integrity.
As they should. Our elections, barring Russian intervention or some kind of shady business by Trump and his mob, have historically been fair and properly handled with a few local exceptions in the bad ole days of machine politics.
I think Trump made an irrevocable mistake by letting on as if election officials might do or allow any hinky stuff to go on with the vote-counting. They deserve credit for working hard in our elections, and do not deserve to have their integrity questioned by the likes of Donald Trump, the liar in chief.
He’s a fine one to question anyone’s integrity. He has no acquaintance with integrity or honesty. They are both foreign concepts to him.
The courts, even those presided over by Republicans, don’t seem to find his stupid law suits and attempts to question the election (just in case he loses) amusing, either. They haven’t been ruling the way he’d like them to…even the Republicans.
